CHRISTMAS AT HOME 2019

Hiya there friends! I’m currently snuggled up finishing up watching The Nativity Story, teary eyed and feeling grateful as I type this. I’m so glad you’re stopping by today. I’m so glad to have joined a wonderful group of women and bloggers to share our Christmas homes with you. I’ve included links to their blogs below at the end of this post.

In my last post I shared how I restyled my shelves in our front room. You can read about that here. I talked about my tendency to rearrange and change. I mentioned how one of the ways I focus on my well being is being creative and using that creative energy in my home. This post is a simple example of that. You’ll be able to see first hand how it has transitioned from the start of the Christmas season to now. You’ll see how things got rearranged and little touches added here and there, haha.. I snapped a few pictures a couple of weeks ago and then again a few days ago.

This year I think this is my very favorite tree.

I tried something a little different, and mixed colored and white lights. I absolutely looooove the outcome. The clear lights and brightness of the colored lights create the sweetest glow on the walls. I’ve always loved white lights on our Christmas tree, but since having children we’ve been putting colored lights on. The boys just love all those colors and I’ve felt convicted through the years to create a Christmas home they will remember and one they are involved in creating. I want them to look back and feel joy in their hearts. I want them to smell cinnamon and cloves in the air and think of the simmer pot simmering on the stove. Or smell sugary cookies and think of their MomMom’s cutout cookies baking in the oven. I want them to look at a childhood ornaments and remember making it or buying it and then hanging it on the Christmas tree.

“For Christmas is tradition time—
Traditions that recall
The precious memories down the years,
The sameness of them all.”

-Helen Marshall

So just like past years we like to fill our tree with family ornaments and then I go in and mix in some colorful ball ornaments. This year is extra exciting because for the first time in 10 years of marriage…10 years of Christmas trees with my husband and I finally bought a tree skirt, haha. I found the perfect one at Target this year. It’s part of the magnolia collection and I totally splurged because I just loved it too much to pass it up!

There’s nothing quite like the glow of a Christmas tree on a cloudy day!

As you can see I added some tinsel to our tree too! I came across some a week or so ago at Target. I was reminded of our trees when I was a little girl, shimmering with silver tinsel, and I couldn’t resist! Oh and can’t forget the train around the tree either! My Dad sent this one to our boys a couple of Christmases ago and they love helping their daddy set it up each year around the tree!

I painted this sweet little nativity several years ago and it’s still my favorite things to pull out each year. I did have it setting on our mantle, but I decided to move it over to the shelves. I loved them on the mantle, but I’m enjoying the small change.

And of course you can’t forget the dried oranges. We have done this each year now for at least 3-4 years and it’s a cherished tradition for sure!!

Thank you so much for stopping by today friends! I hope your day is bright and filled with joy!

Blessings,

Bree
