Hello there, friends! Happy December. As I write this, the boys are playing happily. I am snuggled up by the electric heater trying to stay warm. Sadly our heater is broken, and has been for a week and a half I think? We are hoping the new one will be installed on the 5th! The old thing ran for 30+ years… hoping the new one does too! I’ve got a pot of coffee brewing that is calling my name. It’s a cold blistery day, it’s beginning to feel a lot like winter in my neck of the woods. Today I have our December Tea Time Activities to share with you all. We will be doing these activities throughout the month of December.
This month’s art piece is from George Henry Durrie, its called Going to Church. I love this piece so much, Folk Art style paintings are literally my favorite. We will look at this piece only once per week. We may look up more pieces by George, spend some time learning a little about him and possibly draw/paint our own version of this piece.
This month our theme hymn will be Come Thou Long Expected Jesus. I’ve included the sheet music for your below. We will listen to and sing along to this song each day. I personally love the version from Shane & Shane. The Author of these lyrics is Charles Wesley. It was written in 1744 according to Hymnary.org You can find more information about the history of the song and Charles Wesley HERE to help expand on during morning time or tea time.
Christmas Bells I heard the bells on Christmas Day Their old, familiar carols play, And wild and sweet The words repeat Of peace on earth, good-will to men! And thought how, as the day had come, The belfries of all Christendom Had rolled along The unbroken song Of peace on earth, good-will to men! Till ringing, singing on its way, The world revolved from night to day, A voice, a chime, A chant sublime Of peace on earth, good-will to men! By: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. The Shepherds and the Angels 8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” Luke 2:7-14
