We were in the car on the way to Target on Sunday afternoon when I heard this sermon on the radio, from Alistair Begg. I always enjoy his broadcasts and always walk away with something to ponder and reflect on. I was flying solo because my husband was working. The children were extra needy that day, whiny, and a bit nixie. I’m sure I was probably less than graceful with them. Quick to get impatient and snappy. This sermon was a welcomed reminder that as a parent I’m called to be a light to my children. To be an example to them. Yes, I am a sinner just like them, but I still have authority over them and God has gifted these tiny people to me. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
“The biggest concern of parents should not be our children’s careers but our children’s conversion. Everything must be said in the light of eternity. They will live forever somewhere.” – Alistair Begg
Wow, what a statement and how very true!! This sermon left me feeling convicted about the role I play in the lives of my children and the example I’m called to be to them. That I must be vigilant in equipping them with a firm foundation and teach them with godly wisdom, so that they may grow to be in the world but not of it, amen?
I’ve included the sermon for you below!
