Autumn’s in the Air [a simple fall home tour]

There’s something quite special about Autumn. Is it the changing of the leaves? Their vibrant colors filling the landscape with warmth and beauty. Is it because Autumn shows up like an old friend, though time has passed and things have changed your bond remains the same? Or maybe it’s the refreshing crispness in the air, the way the leaves dance on the pavements when the wind blows, or the wide open bright blue skies. Or perhaps it’s all those things plus so much more that makes Autumn the most beautiful time of year…

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.” – George Eliot

For me Autumn means warmth and coziness, vibrancy and togetherness and every year I look forward to it more and more. Just like earthly seasons change so do seasons of life and with each new year I long for more simplicity in mine. I’m so happy to have teamed up with some of my closest blogging friends to share our Fall Homes with you. Each woman has embraced this season differently [and beautifully] and I know you’re going to be inspired by how they’ve incorporated Autumn into their homes.

For me, I tried to keep things simple and understated. My hope is that I’ve created an atmosphere that the Swedish refer to as “lagom” not too little, not too much, just right.

So grab your warm cup’o somethin’ and come on in!

I love carefully choosing pieces whether old or new to display throughout my home. Taking the time to be intentional with each piece. Thrifted vintage pieces are some of my favorite things. Like this enamel pitcher and cup.

I love incorporating hand crafted pieces, like my DIY wheat wreath. Hand made craft projects may not be perfect or quite how you envisioned it would turn out, but you just have to own it! Its like when you were young and your Mom would put your drawings up on the refrigerator. It’s a heartwarming feeling, an accomplished feeling to be able to display something you put your heart and hard work into.

another quick project that the kids helped me with, a book page leaf garland. I shared a tutorial last year that you can read here

what’s cozier than a little reading nook by the fireplace?

weathered and worn pieces are my favorite. like this old coat rack and cabinet. I often wonder what their stories are, who loved them and used them before me.

pillows, pillows and more pillows, they say throw pillows are like stuffed animals for adults. I think I’d have to agree with that. Like my children and their stuff toys I can’t seem to have enough of them, ha! I received new pillow covers from my friend, Sky, at Her Creative Cottage and I’m in love with them. I encourage you to check out her shop. Her craftsmanship is wonderful!

Aren’t those covers just the prettiest? I love the half cream cotton material on top with the faux leather on the bottom. Totally dreamy and perfect for Fall, I think.

One of my favorite little corners in our home, not much has changed in here since I shared our recent mini makeover. Just a few extra candles and pumpkins. This room is north facing but has windows on the east and west side, so we get both the sunrise and sunset in here and there’s nothing quite like sitting down with a cup of coffee to enjoy the view.

“It was a beautiful bright autumn day, with air like cider and a sky so blue you could drown in it.” ― Diana Gabaldon, Outlander

Thank you so much for stopping by today and don’t forget to head over and visit my friends and their homes.
