Creating a pretty and cozy space that is functional for the whole family can sometimes feel like a big challenge. But, I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be. When we moved into our new home I knew that I wanted the front living room to be the quiet room. I’ve always wanted a space in my home where we could go to relax, drink coffee, entertain friends.. A room without toys or a tv, can I get an Amen? But, I also want my kids to run and play, have fun and be able to be a little wild…but not too wild 😉 So when I first saw our back sunroom I knew that would be the perfect place for our family to spend the majority of our time in. The perfect family room. It’s light and bright during the day and the boys love looking out the windows and watching the birds in the yard. Since we’ve been in our new home the sunroom has gotten the least amount of attention. A sad old sofa, thats definitely seen much better days, a tv and some toys are all that occupied the space. A total blank slate, which brings me to the purpose of today’s post.

As a Mama and Homemaker one of my main priorities is to create a safe happy home for my family. I strive to be intentional with what I bring into my home, creating spaces that are both comfortable and functional. So when I heard about Home Reserve I just knew it was exactly what our Family Room/ Sunroom needed. Home Reserve is a furniture company that makes affordable, family friendly, renewable, and adaptable furniture. Furniture that is both functional, comfy, and pretty!

They have tons of fabric options and the furniture is customizable to suit your needs. For our family room I decided to go with the tux arm couch, chair and an ottoman. I love the clean simple lines, modern but yet classic at the same time. The fabric I chose is a beautiful ashy gray and although it was the color that caught my eye the fact that the fabric is stain and odor resistant is what sold me!! I knew once we decided to replace the furniture it would the perfect time to update the rest of the space. So operation sunroom remodel officially began. We have big plans for this space, some of which take lots of time and money so we’ve only just begun but I wanted to share our progress with you today. The plan is to shiplap the entire room, both the walls and the vaulted ceilings and change the flooring My husband claims that’s a winter project though 😉 so for now it’s mainly just decor updates.

Along with our new furniture from Home Reserve, I replaced our very sad TV stand. It was a cheap antique piece I found on Craiglist and it’s really seen better days. I was scanning the web for weeks hoping to find an antique piece, but kept coming up empty handed. I knew I had a tight budget but I really wanted something affordable with good bones, something sturdy that would last us for years to come. I came across this beautiful media console from Pottery Barn, they were having a great sale and I knew it was the perfect piece for this space. There are drawers for our DVDs and I used baskets I already had from Marshalls for the two shelves that hide our electronics and remotes and some toys.

My goal for this room was to accentuate the views and big windows. I wanted to keep things light, airy and cozy. A place for relaxing. I think the sheer curtains, white walls and the white furniture accents really help to keep this space bright and laid back.

As you can see I tend to move and rearrange things often so pillows and throw blankets move from one seat to the next, plus I decorated for Fall a little bit in between photo shoot days, haha.

I found this amazing piano stool at my favorite local antique store. I mean look at that wood and those legs, isn’t she a beauty!? I love mixing old and new pieces in my home. It really makes a home feel collected.

An antique drying rack to display throw blankets and a quick DIY silhouette project helps to finish off this little landing. You can find the DIY project here.

We also replaced the wall sconce with this one here from Home Depot . I absolutely love it against the exposed stone.

A new lamp from Target and a quick (2) coats of paint on my husband’s Grandfather’s antique end table and this little corner is giving me all the feels now. I actually pulled the old handles off of that sad TV stand before I dropped it off at Goodwill and put them on this table. I love the dark pulls against the light paint color.

I’m sure y’all know by now I love shopping my house. We had some old wood that we had pulled out of the closets that my husband sanded down for me and then made these hexagon shelves. I grabbed my favorite brass candle sticks and amber bottles and viola, a totally free diy project! Oh and shout out to my awesome Sister In Law for letting me come take some of her fresh lavender ❤

Now since this is our family room and where we spend the majority of our time, with two small boys its obvious there are going to be toys, haha. We all know that taming toy clutter with small children is no joke. Between trains and cars, tractors and puzzles it can all be a little overwhelming. I love that my new couch, chair and ottoman from Home Reserve all have built in storage under the seats. It’s perfect for storing the boys’ toys and as for the toys that get used more often pretty storage baskets do the trick!

We’ve had our furniture for several weeks now and it’s so comfy, I love coming out to this room in the morning when everyone is still asleep to sip on my coffee. I’m so grateful for this room and how it all came together. I’d love to hear what you think about it!! Feel free to leave me some comments below! As always you can find me on Instagram @thehomemakingmomma and I’ve tagged the sources from this post below!

Blessings Friends!
