The Perfect Cut-Out Cookie Recipe.

img_0774

I think we can all agree that sugar cookies are usually pretty tasty. And while I can appreciate a great sugar cookie…{I may totally be in the minority here}…but, sometimes with all the icing and sprinkles they are just a little too sweet…anyone else?? Well if you’re part of the minority with me then I have a great solution for you. It’s my mother-in-laws cut out cookie recipe. She made these cookies for her boys through the years and I love keeping the tradition. So now every holiday season I make them too and they never last long. They are one of my husband’s favorite cookies and I’d have to agree with him, they are pretty spectacular. Not too sweet. A simple subtle flavor which makes them great for adding sprinkles and icing. I also love adding a little powdered sugar to mine. They are great for a snack or with your morning cup of coffee. And you may be a little surprised when you see the recipe. There’s an ingredient that I wasn’t expecting when I ate them.

RECIPE

3 1/2 Cups Flour

2 Cups Sugar

1 Cup Butter

1 Cup Sour Cream

2 Eggs

1 tsp baking soda – dissolved in cold water – there is no specific amount of water I just add a tiny bit at a time until my baking soda is dissolved.

anyone else surprised by the sour cream? it really helps to keep the cookie super soft and moist!

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine sugar, butter, sour cream and eggs with an electric mixer. Add 1 cup of flour at a time. Chill dough (covered) for 24 hours. I like to pull my dough out a little bit at a time. Once you start rolling it out it can get sticky quick. Make sure to keep your rolling pin and surface generously floured. Roll dough and cut out your shapes using cookie cutters.  If you’re going to add sprinkles now is the time. Then bake for 8-10 minutes. Once cooled to room temperature you can ice your cookies or dust with some powdered sugar (if you chose not to use sprinkles.)

Here’s a view of the cookies the boys decorated 😉

I hope you enjoy, happy baking!!

Blessings,
