Okay, so we are going to get a little real here. I feel like in our culture especially the social media world, our views of things can be very distorted. We only see bits and pieces. A very small part of a much bigger puzzle. So often we can find ourselves getting discouraged because that persons house is nicer, or that person is a better homemaker, or that woman seems to be a better mother, wife, crafter, you name I think we’ve all felt it or thought it. But these are lies. No one is perfect and yes some people are talented in certain areas that maybe you’re not. But, you have talents and strengths that maybe they don’t. We are all created differently and God has a purpose for us all. What matters is using our strengths and abilities for good, and for Gods glory. So please, please, please never think that you are less than. We need to stop comparing ourselves, homes, lives to others!
I thought for fun I would talk a little about staging and what’s really behind a picture. Sometimes I get comments about, how do I keep my house so clean, or how do I keep my decor so nicely staged. Well first my house isn’t clean all the time because well, we live here haha. Secondly there are times when I “stage” a picture but for the most part what you see is exactly how I have it in my home. But just because my shelf is picture perfect doesn’t mean the rest of my house is…here are some fun examples.
this is real life
As you can see this picture was very staged. No I don’t always have paper taped to my kitchen counter. But I wanted a certain type of picture and this was the best way for me to achieve the look I wanted.
Here is another example of a recent post.
see that pretty pillow peeking on the side of the picture…
yeah, it’s not even a pillow. It a linen napkin that I literally just put over the pillow to make it appear like it was a pillow cover. (which I actually do plan on making pillows out of the two napkins that I have. I just need fabric for the backside.) But again, the picture doesn’t tell the whole story!
Be encouraged friends, no one has it all together, no one has a perfect house or a perfect life. But there is one perfect One and that is Jesus. And praise the Lord we can always rely on Him. We can always look to Him. We can always be assured that His ways are best and His ways are true. Our culture encourages us to want more more more but we need to cling to the One who created us. We need to cling to the the One who wants us to focus our hearts and minds on eternal things, not worldly things. Yes it’s fun to decorate my home. I’m encouraged to be a good homemaker because it blesses my family. But when I listen to lies, when I find myself comparing what others have or what others do and what I don’t and forget who I am and how God sees me. I’m not doing those things for Him anymore, I’m doing them for myself. And I know I have to refocus my heart on Jesus. Because, You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world – 1 John 4:4
